Body language of impatience

Body language of impatience has a few key components that can help you understand and interpret what signs and signals you can watch or see and almost immediately determine impatience. Now there is always the temptation to believe or to think that you know exactly what an action of the body means and therefore what the other person or people are thinking. Base lining or watching the man woman or child to determine their normal behavior patterns is always important to ensure that you read their message right. You will want to watch the person for a few moments to determine normal patterns or routines that they have.

It may be that you are the coolest person on the planet and everyone likes to hang out with you but what about when that person that is with you needs to be somewhere else or they are uncomfortable in their surrounding? You may find that the signs and signals of impatience show through and if they are not deal with your message may be lost.

People can be impatient for many reasons but you will really find that there are really 2 reasons almost everything will fall under:

  • ·         They are not interested in what you have to say or offer because they are busy
  • ·         They have somewhere to be because they are busy and they are not interested in what you have to say or offer

As you watch and read the body signals of a person you can work with the top down approach and that is to start with the head and move down the rest of the body.

Impatience and the body language of the head, shoulders and torso

You may find that when anyone has somewhere to be they may not keep eye contact with you or may turn their head slightly while talking to you almost as if they are talking out the side of their mouth. The head of the person may even nod their head away from you as a nonverbal way to try and escape form the situation. Where you would normally find good eye contact with the person if you know them and now they will not hold it for very long chances are good that something else is going on and they would rather be somewhere else.

When you look at the trunk of the body, the shoulders or even the torso when there is impatience you may also see that there is a shift away from you to a door or someone else, their proximity to you may change. The level of the shoulders may change and tilt away from you or the man, woman or child will lean away from you. This may be a sign that the person you are with does not want to be with you or they need to be somewhere else.

In some instances you may see the breathing pattern change and the person starts to take deep breaths.

Body language of the infamous hand roll

There has been a time where either you have done this or someone has done the action of rolling their hands or arms to you. This sign or signal is a way for the person to say without saying let’s get this ball rolling or move on. If you are a persuader or influencer your commitment to a message or a time has overstepped its bounds and chances are good you are about to lose the arrangement or agreement. This hand or arm roll may also be used with the head nodding as the impatience wears into the conversation. At first these signs may be subtle with a finger roll and may lead into full blown hand and arm rolls.

A common set of body language signs of impatience paired together.

The changes in the body language may include groups or clusters of different actions along with the shifting of the body and or torso.

  • ·         Hand and arm rolls
  • ·         Glaring of the eyes
  • ·         Loss or lack of eye contact
  • ·         Micro expressions of contempt
  • ·        Shaking of the head
  •           Deep breaths and or sighs
  • ·         Foot tapping
  • ·         A body tilt toward the door
  • ·         A change in proximity
  • ·         Signs of pouting in the face
  • ·         Over animation in the arms and head
  • ·         Feet shifting away from you

There may also be some ever so subtle signs and signals that may even be considered convert could include the feet and hands of the person who is impatient. It may just be that the person who is impatient is slightly pointing their hand or starts to point a foot away from you.

Verbal actions coupled with nonverbal actions

Impatience not only changes the nonverbal actions of the body but may also include the verbal attributes of another person wanting or having to be somewhere else. The pace of the words may speed up along with sentences that become shorter when impatience is present. Answers to questions may also become “yes” or “no” answers to get away faster.

Couple the all of the actions of the body along with the nonverbal actions and you spot when impatience has set in.

What to do with the signs of impatience

There will be times that you will read the signs of impatience and there is a right way to deal with the situation. You can use a phrase similar to “I sense you have somewhere else to be”. Now this can be done wrong if you are not patient and it isn’t vocalized the right way and if that is the case the nonverbal actions of the man or the woman will really change and they will react to you in a negative way.

Remember to be patient as you read the body language of others and that your reactions can cause more problems than what you started with.

Learning how to read body language can increase you effective communication skills.

body language of negotiation

Body language of negotiation: There are plenty of times where you can use body language or nonverbal communications to your advantage. Negotiating is something that people do on a dialy basis but may not even notice that they are doing it.

You may use the body language of negotiation with:

  • ·         Your co workers
  • ·         Your significant other
  • ·         Your kids
  • ·         The neighbor you don’t really like
  • ·         When buying a big ticket item

Body language of negotiation with coworkers

Using body language while negotiating may happen by the way that you stand. When you are face front to a man or woman there is a certain value to the direction that you face. You may have one of your feet pointing to the door as if you are saying I have somewhere else to be. This nonverbal action may just put the pressure on your coworker to answer you faster for something you want.

 YouTube Preview Image

Body language of negotiation with significant others

While dealing with your significant other you may bite your lip when they ask for “permission” to go somewhere with the friend you don’t like. The biting of the lip or smashing of the lips together may say my mouth is saying “yes” but my brain and my heart are telling me “no”. You may even see the deep breath being taken almost to say “here we go again” without saying it.

In some instances the body language of negotiation may be slamming a door or an item down when a question is asked. Anytime that body language is used to relay a message it may be used as a negotiation ploy.

Body language of negotiation with kids

So your kid cut their arm and you don’t want them to panic so you use your body language to get them to not freak out. You may disguise your true feelings with a smile it may not be a true smile but you may act like its no big deal. You may have a difficult kid to deal with and you find that it is easier to make a request of them where you are almost talking through the house away from them, you are using your body language where it cant be seen and where theirs cant be seen so there is no reaction. Believe it or not you use negotiation and body language more than you would guess.

Body language of negotiation with the neighbor

You may have to deal with a difficult neighbor and you decide to take them a plate of cookies so that your hands are full so that you don’t use an offensive nonverbal hand gesture. You may even have the talkative neighbor so you decide to negotiate your time by having the conversation far away so they it is understood that you have things to do but it isn’t with them.

Body language of negotiation with salespeople

Now there are not many times where people feel like they have to negotiate but it is something that is done every day. The nonverbal communication while making sales is no different, you will use your body language in a way that you may not even know you are doing it. Remember that a salesperson who has been out in the field for a while will know what you are up to. So you wait for the “glance” or the facial expression” from your significant other just when the “closing question” is asked and you know who can be the bad guy and say “you have to think about it”.

The salesperson may use a lack of body language when you ask for a discount.

You may rub your face and breath a deep sigh when he or she counters.

The salesperson may just shake their head “yes” or “no” when you ask for a discount.

You may even get the end of the negotiation sign with body language and that is the handshake to signify that the dealing is over and you are both satisfied with the offer.

Body language of negotiation everyday

You may have just found that you use body language of negotiation more than you thought of. You may even have found that you negotiate more than what you thought. Keep your eyes open today or tomorrow to how often that you use nonverbal actions to negotiate for something.

base lining body language

Reading body language: When it comes to reading the nonverbal communication of men or women there are a few things that you must do first in order to make sure that you read the situation the right way. For the ability to read body language effectively you must take the time to base line the situation.

The signs of body language can be overt or right out in the open and the man or the woman doesn’t care that you and everyone else sees them or the man or the woman does not really have control of what they are doing with their nonverbal communication.

The signals of nonverbal communication may also be covert where the people around may not see what one person does with their body language. This may be a threatening gesture all of the way to something seductive.

Base lining and body language

Men, woman and kids have set routines when it comes to gestures and ticks in their body language. Now there may be the sign of lying and touching the face but if the man or the woman consistently touches their face there is a high probability that they may not be lying.

Most readings of body language or nonverbal communication are based on probability. In order to understand what type of probability there is and the accuracy of the read one must take the time to figure out the normal routines of the person that is being read. Reading real time requires the use of probabilities.

In gambling they use the word “tell” as a way to describe the body language of a gambler who has a sign or signal when something good or bad happens.

How to baseline to read body language

Base lining others can happen real time or as the man, woman or child is in action. This reading can take place live or may even be done over video camera. There is also a possibility that there is video of the subject that can be read to help get a grasp for normal routines. In some instances their can be a great deal learned about the person by looking at pictures. Base lining the body language of others is a highly visible actions since you must be able to see what the body is doing.

Base lining and normal actions

When base lining the normal actions of a man, woman or child you will watch what their body is doing by looking at:

  • ·         Their hands and arms
  • ·         Their facial expressions
  • ·         The direction and spacing of the body
  • ·         Their bell bubble and or proximity to others
  • ·         Their automatic gestures

Base lining of the hands and body language

Many people talk with their hands and they have gestures that are common for them to use. Some nationalities and regions have hand gestures that they use consistently and they may have a totally different meaning in other parts of the world. In some places talking with hands is not just normal but almost required to communicate effectively.

Base lining and facial expressions

Facial expressions can be a rich body language pool of knowledge when it comes to what the other person may or may not be thinking, Micro expressions may be used to determine what an emotion is and when reading the rest of the body may result in almost near mind reading experience of others. Looking at the eyes, eyebrow and mouth can help determine what emotion or emotions are present.

Base lining and the direction and spacing of the body

While base lining the body language of others it is important to note the distance between the people involved. You may be able to understand the nonverbal communication better by looking at the direction the body is facing compared to the other people in the conversation or the group. Talking face to face means one thing and talking to a man or a woman’s back means something different so it is relevant to understand and interpret what is going on.

Base lining and bell bubble and or proximity to others

Not only is it important to know what direction the body is facing to interpret nonverbal communication but it is also important to not the distance between the man or the woman that is being looked at. People who just met will typically have a greater distance from people who are friends and people who are close friends or intimate can be closer in proximity than those who are just friends.

The distance between those communication can help you interpret, understand and baseline a situation better.

The bell bubble describes the distance between men and or woman and can be described as personal space.

Base lining and automatic gestures

When reading the body language of a subject you will watch for routine or automatic gestures that they have. When a man or a woman lies they may change their routines as to what their body language does. They may have had a hand gesture or facial expressions that they use and when the emotion or context of the situation changes the routine or the facial expression may change. You will want to look for the changes that take place and the is the whole point of base lining how people communicate nonverbally.

In order to interpret body language effectively you must take the time to base line the nonverbal communication of others.

Body langauge and lack of confidence

Reading body language: While reading the body language of men or women you may find a few traits that will reveal some of the information about them that you can interpret to understand how to interact with them.

When it comes to nonverbal communication and the clues that it gives you can read whether a man or woman has confidence or lacks it.

When reading the body language to determine the confidence level you will want to look at a few items:

  • ·         The head
  • ·         The face
  • ·         The shoulders and arms
  • ·         The walk
  • ·         General body movements

 YouTube Preview Image

Body language of the head and lack of confidence

When a man or woman lacks confidence they may walk or move around with their head down or you may see that the chin becomes closer to the chest. This does not always happen it is just one of the signs or items that may or may not occur. In some instances the man or woman will not make eye contact

Body language of the face and the lack of confidence

The face may reveal some of the signs of lack of confidence though micro expressions and it could be through sadness. You may see the face pointed down and a possible pucker on the face. As with any part of reading body language you may or may not see this action and it may or may not combine with the other signals of the body. You may see a frown or even a scowel on the face.

Lack of confidence and the shoulders and arms

When a man or woman lacks confidence their shoulders may roll in. This may or may not be disguised by folded arms. You may notices the body movements are not fluid.

Walking and the lack of confidence

While reading the nonverbal signs of a man or women to determine the confidence or the lack of confidence one of the “tells” that may give away what is going on may be the walk or the speed of the walk. Sometimes when people lack confidence they walk slower or lose their fluid motion or stride.

Body movements that give away lack of confidence

As you watch a man or woman and baseline their actions nonverbally you may notice a few things or you may just see one item that could help you determine or give you clues as to what is going on. The hands and the movements of the body can give away many of these clues and when looking for confidence or the lack of confidence these two items can help. When there is the possibility of the lack of confidence not only is it possible for the man or the woman to lose their stride while they walk but they may also lose the fluid movements of the body. It is a possibility that the movements may become slower or jerky when confidence is lost.

You may even see the man or the woman to do what they can to cover their face when there is some stressful moments but this not always happen.

Baseline your body language reading

When reading the body language of others it is important to take the time to look and see what is going on in the surroundings but also to take a moment to read what the man or the woman is doing. Be patient and take your time because if you read a situation wrong you may notice that the reaction can create some issues. Most of the time the body language can give you a general idea of what is going on but remember there are times where you can be wrong so take you time.

Body language of a smile

Body language of a smile: It doesn’t matter where you go in the world there are a few things that are universal:

  • ·         Coca Cola
  • ·         Traffic
  • ·         Smiles

Now when it comes to other people you may not have the ability to speak their language but the universal sign and signal of approval is the smile. You know that whatever language you speak the smile is the gateway into others.

Body language of real smiles:

To learn about real smiles and how to understand them we will have to take a short trip to France. Its ok it will just take the time of this paragraph. You can thank a Dr. for Neurology as we know it today and that would be Guillaume-Benjamin-Amand Duchenne (1806 – 1875).

Dr. Duchenne is the father of neurology as we know it. When you see a real or genuine smile you can have some inside knowledge and know that the Duchenne smile was named after him.

There are a few traits when understanding the nonverbal communication of a smile and also to know if it is a real smile that you are reading:

  • ·         The corners of the lips will pull back
  • ·         The eyes will create crows feet wrinkles

When you read or interpret a real smile you will see the corners of the lips pull back towards the ears. When a man or women gives a genuine smile you will see crow’s feet or wrinkles at the corners of the eye. As age sets in on both men and women these crow’s feet become more pronounced.

Body language of a fake smile:

When you are reading into the nonverbal signs of a smile you will want to look at the corners of the lips and or the cheeks. The cheeks may raise in the case of a fake smile depending on the man or the woman .

In some instances a fake or generated smile may look more like surprise than a smile.

Most people cannot successfully fake a “genuine” smile and that is great news for you because you know when you interpret a genuine smile there is high probability it is real. One could guess it is a natural defense mechanism built over time to defend real emotions.

(video coming soon and goes here)

Body language of sadness

Body language of sadness: When looking at the body language of men or women there are ways to almost “read minds” by being able to understand and interpret the micro expressions of sadness.

When you are sad there are certain things that you will do nonverbally and there are specific things you will do with your facial features. The body language of sadness has some very specific things that happen with the face.

You can read the micro expressions of sadness by looking at:

  • ·         The eyes
  • ·         The mouth

Micro expressions of sadness and the eyes

When a man or a woman is sad their eyes will droop from the top and while looking at them they will not have focus. It will almost seem like they are not looking at anything in specific or have nowhere to go. There is no sense of purpose about the man or the woman who is showing the signs and signals of sadness.

Micro expressions of sadness and the mouth

As you look at a person who is displaying the micro expression of sadness you will see their mouth turn down with a slight pull to the corners. This look will be like a slight pout. You may even see a little twitching when looking at the corners

Micro expressions and the rest of the body language of sadness

Any emotion will leak through other parts of the body when someone is living through them. Most of the time when a man or woman is sad you will see them moving slower than normal almost like they are in a sped up version of slow motion. You may see their arms folded as if they are holding themselves. There may even be more signs in the body language of someone who is showing the emotion of sadness and that may be they the man or the woman will look downwards consistently. Last of all you may see that the man or woman who is sad breathes slower than normal.

Its always a good idea to baseline a person who’s body language you are reading first. This means that you watch their actions and or their micro expressions for a moment before coming to a conclusion about what their body language is saying.
