Body language of facial hair and social norm: As of right now in the spring of 2012 having a beard is the cool thing to do. There are plenty of musicians right now who have short beards. The fashion magazines right now have men with facial hair. A few years back the cool thing to do was to have a shaved head and a goatee. For some this would be a way to help with maintaining or creating an identity.

Body language of facial hair authority figures: Sometimes you will see authority figures with facial hair whether it is a moustache or something similar to a goatee. There is the belief that a man with either of these items can be used to intimidate people becasue it may hide facial expressions. It is really common to see state troopers with facial hair. For firemen it is a tradition and there are some times where the guys in the firehouse have a competition. These facial hair competitions are also common in some militaries.

Body language of facial hair and comfort: You may see men with a little facial hair and it may be for no other reason than that they didn’t want to shave. There is no reason to read into this. You may see this happen on any given day. For some it’s because they got up late, for some they may have skin that get irrigated easily and for some there is no reason they don’t have to.

Body language of facial hair and how to hide from society: While viewing some men with beards whether short or long they may be used as a guise to hide from society. Some may say that this type of using the facial hair to hide from life. Now there are some regions of the world where long beards are just a custom and it would be strange to not have one.

Body language of facial hair and religion: Now there are some religions that use facial hair as part of religious ceremonies and commitments in a case where a man uses his facial hair as o covenant there really isn’t a social reason why they do so. base lining body language

Reading body language: When it comes to reading the nonverbal communication of men or women there are a few things that you must do first in order to make sure that you read the situation the right way. For the ability to read body language effectively you must take the time to base line the situation.

The signs of body language can be overt or right out in the open and the man or the woman doesn’t care that you and everyone else sees them or the man or the woman does not really have control of what they are doing with their nonverbal communication.

The signals of nonverbal communication may also be covert where the people around may not see what one person does with their body language. This may be a threatening gesture all of the way to something seductive.

Base lining and body language

Men, woman and kids have set routines when it comes to gestures and ticks in their body language. Now there may be the sign of lying and touching the face but if the man or the woman consistently touches their face there is a high probability that they may not be lying.

Most readings of body language or nonverbal communication are based on probability. In order to understand what type of probability there is and the accuracy of the read one must take the time to figure out the normal routines of the person that is being read. Reading real time requires the use of probabilities.

In gambling they use the word “tell” as a way to describe the body language of a gambler who has a sign or signal when something good or bad happens.

How to baseline to read body language

Base lining others can happen real time or as the man, woman or child is in action. This reading can take place live or may even be done over video camera. There is also a possibility that there is video of the subject that can be read to help get a grasp for normal routines. In some instances their can be a great deal learned about the person by looking at pictures. Base lining the body language of others is a highly visible actions since you must be able to see what the body is doing.

Base lining and normal actions

When base lining the normal actions of a man, woman or child you will watch what their body is doing by looking at:

  • ·         Their hands and arms
  • ·         Their facial expressions
  • ·         The direction and spacing of the body
  • ·         Their bell bubble and or proximity to others
  • ·         Their automatic gestures

Base lining of the hands and body language

Many people talk with their hands and they have gestures that are common for them to use. Some nationalities and regions have hand gestures that they use consistently and they may have a totally different meaning in other parts of the world. In some places talking with hands is not just normal but almost required to communicate effectively.

Base lining and facial expressions

Facial expressions can be a rich body language pool of knowledge when it comes to what the other person may or may not be thinking, Micro expressions may be used to determine what an emotion is and when reading the rest of the body may result in almost near mind reading experience of others. Looking at the eyes, eyebrow and mouth can help determine what emotion or emotions are present.

Base lining and the direction and spacing of the body

While base lining the body language of others it is important to note the distance between the people involved. You may be able to understand the nonverbal communication better by looking at the direction the body is facing compared to the other people in the conversation or the group. Talking face to face means one thing and talking to a man or a woman’s back means something different so it is relevant to understand and interpret what is going on.

Base lining and bell bubble and or proximity to others

Not only is it important to know what direction the body is facing to interpret nonverbal communication but it is also important to not the distance between the man or the woman that is being looked at. People who just met will typically have a greater distance from people who are friends and people who are close friends or intimate can be closer in proximity than those who are just friends.

The distance between those communication can help you interpret, understand and baseline a situation better.

The bell bubble describes the distance between men and or woman and can be described as personal space.

Base lining and automatic gestures

When reading the body language of a subject you will watch for routine or automatic gestures that they have. When a man or a woman lies they may change their routines as to what their body language does. They may have had a hand gesture or facial expressions that they use and when the emotion or context of the situation changes the routine or the facial expression may change. You will want to look for the changes that take place and the is the whole point of base lining how people communicate nonverbally.

In order to interpret body language effectively you must take the time to base line the nonverbal communication of others.

Body language of a smile

Body language of a smile: It doesn’t matter where you go in the world there are a few things that are universal:

  • ·         Coca Cola
  • ·         Traffic
  • ·         Smiles

Now when it comes to other people you may not have the ability to speak their language but the universal sign and signal of approval is the smile. You know that whatever language you speak the smile is the gateway into others.

Body language of real smiles:

To learn about real smiles and how to understand them we will have to take a short trip to France. Its ok it will just take the time of this paragraph. You can thank a Dr. for Neurology as we know it today and that would be Guillaume-Benjamin-Amand Duchenne (1806 – 1875).

Dr. Duchenne is the father of neurology as we know it. When you see a real or genuine smile you can have some inside knowledge and know that the Duchenne smile was named after him.

There are a few traits when understanding the nonverbal communication of a smile and also to know if it is a real smile that you are reading:

  • ·         The corners of the lips will pull back
  • ·         The eyes will create crows feet wrinkles

When you read or interpret a real smile you will see the corners of the lips pull back towards the ears. When a man or women gives a genuine smile you will see crow’s feet or wrinkles at the corners of the eye. As age sets in on both men and women these crow’s feet become more pronounced.

Body language of a fake smile:

When you are reading into the nonverbal signs of a smile you will want to look at the corners of the lips and or the cheeks. The cheeks may raise in the case of a fake smile depending on the man or the woman .

In some instances a fake or generated smile may look more like surprise than a smile.

Most people cannot successfully fake a “genuine” smile and that is great news for you because you know when you interpret a genuine smile there is high probability it is real. One could guess it is a natural defense mechanism built over time to defend real emotions.

Body language and learning how to read it:

A great place to look into and increase your capabilities is to look at photos or videos of men, women and kids smiling in order to get your baseline of this nonverbal communication skill. You can go places where people would have real smiles and get a feel for what they look like and you could also just observe people at dinner where on a weekend night you can see just about every human emotion and or micro expression possible.

It is important for you to know what your body language is doing so why not video tape yourself so you can see for yourself what you are doing when you communicate with others. See if you can give a real or Duchenne smile when you don’t want to and then you can also see what it looks like when you fake this experience.

Body Language of surprise

Body Language of surprise: When reading the body language of men or women and looking for surprise there are a few facial expressions to look at:

  • ·         Eyes
  • ·         Eyebrows
  • ·         Mouth

When you want to understand or even how to tell when a man or woman is surprised there are a few things that they will do with their micro expressions. You will see the eyebrows lift up, the eyes will open and the mouth will open.

When dealing with micro expressions is good to note that they may last for a fraction of a second. They may not last long at all. The facial expressions can give up the information needed of the emotions so that you can interpret the nonverbal cues given.

The body language of surprise may happen for so many different reasons. In any given circumstance whether for a man or a woman the signs and signals will all be the same.

Body language of the hands while surprised

When a man or a woman is surprised you may see their hands lift, the hands may go in front of the core of the body to protect vital organs. It’s not uncommon in most instances whether surprise or fear for the hands to start to protect the body.

Body language of the feet while surprised

The body language of feet while surprised may jolt and even sometimes come off the ground, in some instances the man or the woman may jump. This jump may be a border line of fear in some instances.

Body language of surprise locations

Some of the places or locations that you would see a woman or man surprised could be:

  • ·         At a party
  • ·         At a sporting event
  • ·         At a child’s birth
  • ·         When meeting someone like a celebrity
  • ·         When finding an item or a token
  • ·         At a chance of luck like gambling

There are plenty of places where the nonverbal communication of surprise can be seen. When dealing with someone who may be under investigation their body language should at first show surprise and then fear. When in this order the man or woman would be saying through their signs and signals they were not expecting the issue to happen. The facial expressions would give away if they were telling the truth or if they were lying. The micro expression of surprise is telling in a way that people cannot control. In the case of a lie or lying this tip may just give up the “tell” or rouse instantly.

Body language and working with a baseline

When dealing with any body language it is always a good idea to watch the situation or the conversation for a moment to baseline what is going on especially if there is anything on the line that can later cause problems or issues. Being patient when interpreting body language is usually the most difficult for people who are new when it comes to learning how to interpret nonverbal communication.

Body language mistakes

Body language mistakes: Now there are so many things that you can do right when using body language to be more persuasive. You don’t have to be an expert to know about body language that can offend others.

Now think for just a second about when you get to see a hidden message that others have not. It may happen on television or it can be something that you catch out of the corner of your eye. Now what if you were the one who made the body language mistake?

Body language mistakes in a covert manner

It is possible to have some covert messages or even embedded commands build into body language or non verbal communication. Now some of these messages are so strong that the “non verbal” element really doesn’t matter and the message really isn’t covert anymore.

Salespeople make the body language mistake of letting their minds go on autopilot and allow their facial expressions and or hand gestures to display what they are thinking without thinking. The response that may happen is not always the best. In this instance the potential client does not have to be the best at reading people he or she is not engaged anymore and the chances of business happening are slim to none when these covert body language messages are caught.

The first thing for you to know if you live your life in a profession that requires your ability to persuade others is that your body language mistakes can be caught and beat. It is best for you to know about body language or nonverbal communication to help you understand the signs and signals that may allow others to interpret your message incorrectly.

Body language mistake of fingers

In the western culture it is common to point with your index finger, the digit closest to your thumb. Its not nice to point and this hand gesture can get you in trouble when done wrong because it can trigger the “rejection mechanism” in the mind of the person being pointed at.

There are some people who point with their middle finger …

And those people create problems for themselves with the covert body language mistake. Their message may not have a negative non verbal element but when the person gets caught by the brain with the hidden or covert body language message it is tough to recover because who is going to confront a person about being “flipped off” as its called here in the United states or even “flipping the bird”

What is body language? Very destructive when perceived wrong is the answer..

Its best to not point with anything but your index finger when need and if at all possible it is best to use a pen when available or an open palm. You don’t have to be an expert at reading people to know when the middle finger is used to convey a thought or message.
