Body language of impatience

Body language of impatience has a few key components that can help you understand and interpret what signs and signals you can watch or see and almost immediately determine impatience. Now there is always the temptation to believe or to think that you know exactly what an action of the body means and therefore what the other person or people are thinking. Base lining or watching the man woman or child to determine their normal behavior patterns is always important to ensure that you read their message right. You will want to watch the person for a few moments to determine normal patterns or routines that they have.

It may be that you are the coolest person on the planet and everyone likes to hang out with you but what about when that person that is with you needs to be somewhere else or they are uncomfortable in their surrounding? You may find that the signs and signals of impatience show through and if they are not deal with your message may be lost.

People can be impatient for many reasons but you will really find that there are really 2 reasons almost everything will fall under:

  • ·         They are not interested in what you have to say or offer because they are busy
  • ·         They have somewhere to be because they are busy and they are not interested in what you have to say or offer

As you watch and read the body signals of a person you can work with the top down approach and that is to start with the head and move down the rest of the body.

Impatience and the body language of the head, shoulders and torso

You may find that when anyone has somewhere to be they may not keep eye contact with you or may turn their head slightly while talking to you almost as if they are talking out the side of their mouth. The head of the person may even nod their head away from you as a nonverbal way to try and escape form the situation. Where you would normally find good eye contact with the person if you know them and now they will not hold it for very long chances are good that something else is going on and they would rather be somewhere else.

When you look at the trunk of the body, the shoulders or even the torso when there is impatience you may also see that there is a shift away from you to a door or someone else, their proximity to you may change. The level of the shoulders may change and tilt away from you or the man, woman or child will lean away from you. This may be a sign that the person you are with does not want to be with you or they need to be somewhere else.

In some instances you may see the breathing pattern change and the person starts to take deep breaths.

Body language of the infamous hand roll

There has been a time where either you have done this or someone has done the action of rolling their hands or arms to you. This sign or signal is a way for the person to say without saying let’s get this ball rolling or move on. If you are a persuader or influencer your commitment to a message or a time has overstepped its bounds and chances are good you are about to lose the arrangement or agreement. This hand or arm roll may also be used with the head nodding as the impatience wears into the conversation. At first these signs may be subtle with a finger roll and may lead into full blown hand and arm rolls.

A common set of body language signs of impatience paired together.

The changes in the body language may include groups or clusters of different actions along with the shifting of the body and or torso.

  • ·         Hand and arm rolls
  • ·         Glaring of the eyes
  • ·         Loss or lack of eye contact
  • ·         Micro expressions of contempt
  • ·        Shaking of the head
  •           Deep breaths and or sighs
  • ·         Foot tapping
  • ·         A body tilt toward the door
  • ·         A change in proximity
  • ·         Signs of pouting in the face
  • ·         Over animation in the arms and head
  • ·         Feet shifting away from you

There may also be some ever so subtle signs and signals that may even be considered convert could include the feet and hands of the person who is impatient. It may just be that the person who is impatient is slightly pointing their hand or starts to point a foot away from you.

Verbal actions coupled with nonverbal actions

Impatience not only changes the nonverbal actions of the body but may also include the verbal attributes of another person wanting or having to be somewhere else. The pace of the words may speed up along with sentences that become shorter when impatience is present. Answers to questions may also become “yes” or “no” answers to get away faster.

Couple the all of the actions of the body along with the nonverbal actions and you spot when impatience has set in.

What to do with the signs of impatience

There will be times that you will read the signs of impatience and there is a right way to deal with the situation. You can use a phrase similar to “I sense you have somewhere else to be”. Now this can be done wrong if you are not patient and it isn’t vocalized the right way and if that is the case the nonverbal actions of the man or the woman will really change and they will react to you in a negative way.

Remember to be patient as you read the body language of others and that your reactions can cause more problems than what you started with.

Learning how to read body language can increase you effective communication skills.

Reading body language of rolled sleeves

Reading body language of rolled sleeves: You can learn a lot about others by looking at their nonverbal communication and the way that they wear their clothes.

When people roll their sleeves there are 3 main reasons:

  1. 1.      The person is working with current trends
  2. 2.      The person doesn’t want to get their clothes dirty
  3. 3.      The person wants to appear to others that he or she is “working hard”

Body language  of rolling sleeves for trend

One of the current trends for men is to roll their sleeves of “flip” them up. In some instances the shirts will have a design on the inside sleeve because it was not meant to be left buttoned. When this is done for trend it more of a matter of fitting in so that there is not negative attention. There is some social value to appear like others.  While reading the body language of a man rolling his sleeves for trend you could assume it is somewhat for the fitting in but also to get some attention.

An offshoot of the trend may be to show a bracelet or a watch to gain some attention through their nonverbal communication. Some people who wear expensive watches may do so just to see if others are paying attention to the social status of the jewelry. In a case like this the body language used may be more exaggerated with the arms.

Body language of rolling the sleeves for work

While reading the body language of someone working and rolling their sleeves the man or woman isn’t really doing the rolling to fit within a persona or to get attention they are doing so to get some work done. Their nonverbal communication may show them as being serious or working hard on a project or service. You may see the person not making much contact with others or you could see the man or the women lifting, cleaning or even moving products. This person who is working may give off the feeling through their body language that they are in a hurry or that they are willing to take time with whatever they are working on.

Body language of rolling sleeves to appear as hard work is being done

For some people who roll their sleeves they want to appear like they are working harder than what they really are by using their nonverbal communication to express this idea. Many times you will see politicians who while working in town halls do so to give the appearance of being just like everyone there who is hard working or that more work is being done that what is really going on.

Now there are some politicians or people who really are working hard but for the most part they have been “coached” by a body language or persuasion expert to help build a persona that identifies with a person or a group.

Whatever the reason a man or woman rolls their sleeves you can read from their body language and interpret the situation to help understand the best way to identify what message that they are trying or are delivering.

Reading body langauge: The perfect high five demonstration

YouTube Preview Image

Reading body language: There are plenty of fun things to learn when studying non verbal communication or how to read body language. Understanding how people communicate and influence each other is a key component to the quality of life.

When it comes to supporting friends and going out to have fun there is nothing more important than being able to land a perfect high five at the right time to underscore a celebration for any occasion.

Now how could giving not being able to give a proper high five be part of non verbal communication?

Remember how people judge and view you is the real way that you are communicating whether you are talking or not. What communication is becomes more important the more risk that there is involved.

Take for example this sales scenario that could either help you make the sale or lose it to a competitor:

Say you are out on the town and you are a sales rep and you are working on a perfect deal that will help you with a new account. Your new potential client takes you out to a football game or similar sporting event and the team you are there for scores and the crowd goes wild… Your new potential client goes to give you a high five and you miss horribly.

There is no going back, you have left a bad impression. If you can’t give a high five properly what else can you not do? Where else would you screw up? How much internal fear would be developed on the part of the potential client? What if there were other team members there that you needed to impress and they interpreted body language from you after missing that wasn’t there?

Oh how this awkward situation could be reversed, is there a sure fire way that you would never miss an opportunity to not just deliver a high five but do it correctly every single time the situation calls for this awesome celebration?

Yes there is and it is an easy one step process that can almost never go wrong.

Lets face it how long have you been celebrating with friends after a scoring run, and you can’t do a simple high five?

Now this simple tip will help you in more ways than you could imagine.

Sometimes you need the ability to demonstrate something at the front of the room or there is the perfect opportunity to show your bosses kids or family members to deliver the perfect high five. This teaching opportunity usually stops people cold because nobody has ever shown or told them the secret of the proper high five. This could even work on a date if you were taking that special someone to a sporting event and you wanted to get in some early kinesthetic touch to help make that new person comfortable with you.

Knowing the secret to the perfect high five may not save your life in a critical situation but it may very well help your persuasive skills at the perfect moment with the right amount of confidence and certainty needed for whatever reason that you are celebrating.

As always I would like to thank you in advance for your comments and or questions!

Reading body language: How to learn how to read the language of the body

Reading body language now: It seems that having the ability
to read nonverbal communications is all the rage right now. The reason is that
it gives you a leg up on sales, negotiations and just every other aspect of
life.

It seems that everyone want to take a course on the subject
to become some sort of body language expert to get on television.

For you to learn how to read body language now there are a
few tips that you can use almost instantly.

  • Start watching television for a few moments with
the sound off to get the context of what the people are saying.
  • Go to a bar around midnight and watch how people
    interact at about midnight
  • Go to places where your language is not the
    common language used.

Reading body language comes easier when you understand the
nuances of the people around you. To use the body language tip of watching
television with the volume off, there is a second part. Your job is to take
notes and guess what is going on. You will then watch the show with the volume
on to see how close you were to the context of what you wrote down in your
notes.

It is super important that you actually take notes and not
just do them mentally. Yes you can shortcut your learning process of reading
body language but that will end up hurting your persuasive abilities in the
future.

If you go to a bar a few hours before they close the people
who have been drinking will be more relaxed and their body language will be
slightly more exaggerated. Your ability to detect what the non-verbal context
of conversations will be easier. As you learn how to read body language this
tip does make it faster.

Lastly if you go to a place where you do not speak the same
language like a restaurant or store you will be almost forced into reading into
what is going on around you. Your job once again is to guess the context of
conversations around you.

The first place to watch is the hands of the people who are
your subjects you hope to learn body language from. See how the people you are
watching use gestures to communicate, is the pace fast or slow? Is the stage or
area they are using small and within the areas of the body or are they huge and
way outside the frame of the body. The stage that people use can help determine
the context of the conversations people around you are having.

Lastly on word of caution when out and about to learn how to
read body language and that is to act normal and calm. Of you seem that you are
too interested in the people around you they may feel uncomfortable and start
to react to you. Your job is to be covert while learning this persuasive skill.
If you are watching the people or group too much and they feel uncomfortable
you may want to introduce yourself and explain what is going on. You would be surprised
to find out how interested the people will become about learning how to read
body language.
