Body language of impatience

Body language of impatience has a few key components that can help you understand and interpret what signs and signals you can watch or see and almost immediately determine impatience. Now there is always the temptation to believe or to think that you know exactly what an action of the body means and therefore what the other person or people are thinking. Base lining or watching the man woman or child to determine their normal behavior patterns is always important to ensure that you read their message right. You will want to watch the person for a few moments to determine normal patterns or routines that they have.

It may be that you are the coolest person on the planet and everyone likes to hang out with you but what about when that person that is with you needs to be somewhere else or they are uncomfortable in their surrounding? You may find that the signs and signals of impatience show through and if they are not deal with your message may be lost.

People can be impatient for many reasons but you will really find that there are really 2 reasons almost everything will fall under:

  • ·         They are not interested in what you have to say or offer because they are busy
  • ·         They have somewhere to be because they are busy and they are not interested in what you have to say or offer

As you watch and read the body signals of a person you can work with the top down approach and that is to start with the head and move down the rest of the body.

Impatience and the body language of the head, shoulders and torso

You may find that when anyone has somewhere to be they may not keep eye contact with you or may turn their head slightly while talking to you almost as if they are talking out the side of their mouth. The head of the person may even nod their head away from you as a nonverbal way to try and escape form the situation. Where you would normally find good eye contact with the person if you know them and now they will not hold it for very long chances are good that something else is going on and they would rather be somewhere else.

When you look at the trunk of the body, the shoulders or even the torso when there is impatience you may also see that there is a shift away from you to a door or someone else, their proximity to you may change. The level of the shoulders may change and tilt away from you or the man, woman or child will lean away from you. This may be a sign that the person you are with does not want to be with you or they need to be somewhere else.

In some instances you may see the breathing pattern change and the person starts to take deep breaths.

Body language of the infamous hand roll

There has been a time where either you have done this or someone has done the action of rolling their hands or arms to you. This sign or signal is a way for the person to say without saying let’s get this ball rolling or move on. If you are a persuader or influencer your commitment to a message or a time has overstepped its bounds and chances are good you are about to lose the arrangement or agreement. This hand or arm roll may also be used with the head nodding as the impatience wears into the conversation. At first these signs may be subtle with a finger roll and may lead into full blown hand and arm rolls.

A common set of body language signs of impatience paired together.

The changes in the body language may include groups or clusters of different actions along with the shifting of the body and or torso.

  • ·         Hand and arm rolls
  • ·         Glaring of the eyes
  • ·         Loss or lack of eye contact
  • ·         Micro expressions of contempt
  • ·        Shaking of the head
  •           Deep breaths and or sighs
  • ·         Foot tapping
  • ·         A body tilt toward the door
  • ·         A change in proximity
  • ·         Signs of pouting in the face
  • ·         Over animation in the arms and head
  • ·         Feet shifting away from you

There may also be some ever so subtle signs and signals that may even be considered convert could include the feet and hands of the person who is impatient. It may just be that the person who is impatient is slightly pointing their hand or starts to point a foot away from you.

Verbal actions coupled with nonverbal actions

Impatience not only changes the nonverbal actions of the body but may also include the verbal attributes of another person wanting or having to be somewhere else. The pace of the words may speed up along with sentences that become shorter when impatience is present. Answers to questions may also become “yes” or “no” answers to get away faster.

Couple the all of the actions of the body along with the nonverbal actions and you spot when impatience has set in.

What to do with the signs of impatience

There will be times that you will read the signs of impatience and there is a right way to deal with the situation. You can use a phrase similar to “I sense you have somewhere else to be”. Now this can be done wrong if you are not patient and it isn’t vocalized the right way and if that is the case the nonverbal actions of the man or the woman will really change and they will react to you in a negative way.

Remember to be patient as you read the body language of others and that your reactions can cause more problems than what you started with.

Learning how to read body language can increase you effective communication skills.

Body language of holding hands

Body language of holding hands: Reading body language is all about looking at the person or the people and then taking the time to make an interpretation of what is going on. It really depends more about what the viewer thinks of the activities because the other person or people will react to what they think you believe is going on.

First off it’s a good reminder that it is important to baseline any situation that you are reading.

The nonverbal cues given by men and women holding hands can be read through a few different criteria:

  • ·         The proximity or the distance between the two people holding hands
  • ·         Where the hands are being grasped by the men and women
  • ·         The pace or speed of walking of the men and women in question
  • ·         Where the people are or the social surrounding

Body language of Proximity:

When reading the body language of holding hands it is important to look at how close the people are in relation to each other. It’s not just how close they are but it’s also how they hold each others hand. You have probably seen the guy holding the girls hand where he doesn’t really seem like he wants to hold the hand. Typically you will see a firm grasp but light grasp of the hand instead a lose grip on the fingers. You would see men and women in a loving relationship have a common grasp with each other.

Body language of relationships

When looking at how men and women hold hands you can get a feel for their relationship in some instances. There are times where one of the people has a scowl on their face, in some instances their may be the micro expression of contempt or possibly even the flash of anger.  There are times where you may see one of the people holding the others hand with wrap around the wrist. Some men and or women in close relationships will hold or pull each other close as they walk together or even sit together.

Normally the men and the women who are getting along well or in a good relationship will have a natural glide. Sometimes when there are problems or issues in the relationship you may see one person pulling the other as they walk or the man be walking faster than the other. On the other hand you may see those who are in a loving relationship walking slow and looking or gazing at each other.

What you want to look for is a common stride or pace between the two whether fast or slow.

If the couple is sitting you may see the man or woman holding the other person hand close they may even have the hand pulled up onto a part of the body. There are times where the hand may be getting rubbed by either person.

Body language of possession

When looking at the proximity of the men and women holding hands there are times where the bodies of the men and or the women are just too close, at sometimes just flat out awkward to look at. You will see people in a relationship within the bell bubble but when the proximity becomes too close it is may of a sign of possession or a really close relationship. You would only be able to tell by looking at the two people and base lining what their actions are.

The body language of possessiveness may just go one step further and that is when the man or women will have a good arm lock around the shoulder of the other person with them. When the two people walk together the person who may be possessive is standing straight up while the other man or woman is pulled in almost to the point where the man or woman who is being possessed has to walk leaning into the possessor.  You will typically see this type of possessive activity between younger couples.

You will want to look for jerky movements between the two and staring at others from one of the parties at the people around them.

Reading body language risks

There is always a risk in reading body language and that is you can make assumptions too quickly as to what is going on and you may have the possibility of being wrong. Learning how to read the nonverbal communication of others takes time and patience. While reading the body language of others it is important to baseline the actions nonverbally as to what the men and or the women are doing.

Reading body language takes training and or a home study course for you to learn the right way instead of guessing.

body language of tapping feet

Body language of tapping feet: Reading body language may take you plenty of places and while learning how to interpret nonverbal communication every motion of the body may mean something. There are even times where body language has no meaning or the nonverbal communication is being used to create tension or even to hide or mask the real situation.

While men or woman tap their feet there may be a few reasons why they do so:

  • ·         Nervousness
  • ·         Habit
  • ·         To annoy people or for fun

 YouTube Preview Image

Reading the body language of nervousness

There are times where people have nervous reactions to a situation and they do not have control of what their body does. Nervousness can usually start with the hands shaking or even the feet or a foot tapping. You would want to baseline the man, woman or child that you are reading the body language of. If someone were having a time where they are nervous the foot would start tapping just at or about that point in time. Most people cannot stop their foot or feet from shaking or tapping.

Reading the body language of habitual actions

Some people for a level of comfort automatically shake or tap their foot or feet. In this case while base lining the person you would find that this action happens no matter what, it’s not a case of nervousness but one of habit. It makes it difficult to determine if there is any other emotion or action taking place.

In some instances people will do what they can to throw off the ability to read the nonverbal actions by consistently having a nervous tick that masks the real actions.

There are just some people who tap their feet all of the time and it means absolutely nothing. When read wrong this can lead the reader to think that the person is lying or trying to hide something.

Reading the body language of annoyance

Now there are times where people will use their body language just to annoy you. Some kids will tap their feet in order to get their siblings angry. These actions may with the body can take their toll on emotions and drive adults and kids up the wall. The tapping of the feet can happen anywhere from a quiet library all of the way to sitting at dinner.

Reading body language requires that you look at the situation to see what is going on and why someone may have the body language or reactions that they do. Sometimes the body language is a cry for attention and it is important to baseline the situation so that you are not a victim of the law of reaction.

Body language of a smile

Body language of a smile: It doesn’t matter where you go in the world there are a few things that are universal:

  • ·         Coca Cola
  • ·         Traffic
  • ·         Smiles

Now when it comes to other people you may not have the ability to speak their language but the universal sign and signal of approval is the smile. You know that whatever language you speak the smile is the gateway into others.

Body language of real smiles:

To learn about real smiles and how to understand them we will have to take a short trip to France. Its ok it will just take the time of this paragraph. You can thank a Dr. for Neurology as we know it today and that would be Guillaume-Benjamin-Amand Duchenne (1806 – 1875).

Dr. Duchenne is the father of neurology as we know it. When you see a real or genuine smile you can have some inside knowledge and know that the Duchenne smile was named after him.

There are a few traits when understanding the nonverbal communication of a smile and also to know if it is a real smile that you are reading:

  • ·         The corners of the lips will pull back
  • ·         The eyes will create crows feet wrinkles

When you read or interpret a real smile you will see the corners of the lips pull back towards the ears. When a man or women gives a genuine smile you will see crow’s feet or wrinkles at the corners of the eye. As age sets in on both men and women these crow’s feet become more pronounced.

Body language of a fake smile:

When you are reading into the nonverbal signs of a smile you will want to look at the corners of the lips and or the cheeks. The cheeks may raise in the case of a fake smile depending on the man or the woman .

In some instances a fake or generated smile may look more like surprise than a smile.

Most people cannot successfully fake a “genuine” smile and that is great news for you because you know when you interpret a genuine smile there is high probability it is real. One could guess it is a natural defense mechanism built over time to defend real emotions.

(video coming soon and goes here)

Body language and learning how to read it:

Reading the signs of a real smile is a great place to learn how to read body language. A great place to look into and increase your capabilities is to look at photos or videos of men, women and kids smiling in order to get your baseline of this nonverbal communication skill. You can go places where people would have real smiles and get a feel for what they look like and you could also just observe people at dinner where on a weekend night you can see just about every human emotion and or micro expression possible.

It is important for you to know what your body language is doing so why not video tape yourself so you can see for yourself what you are doing when you communicate with others. See if you can give a real or Duchenne smile when you don’t want to and then you can also see what it looks like when you fake this experience.

Body Language of surprise

Body Language of surprise: When reading the body language of men or women and looking for surprise there are a few facial expressions to look at:

  • ·         Eyes
  • ·         Eyebrows
  • ·         Mouth

When you want to understand or even how to tell when a man or woman is surprised there are a few things that they will do with their micro expressions. You will see the eyebrows lift up, the eyes will open and the mouth will open.

When dealing with micro expressions is good to note that they may last for a fraction of a second. They may not last long at all. The facial expressions can give up the information needed of the emotions so that you can interpret the nonverbal cues given.

 YouTube Preview Image

The body language of surprise may happen for so many different reasons. In any given circumstance whether for a man or a woman the signs and signals will all be the same.

Body language of the hands while surprised

When a man or a woman is surprised you may see their hands lift, the hands may go in front of the core of the body to protect vital organs. It’s not uncommon in most instances whether surprise or fear for the hands to start to protect the body.

Body language of the feet while surprised

The body language of feet while surprised may jolt and even sometimes come off the ground, in some instances the man or the woman may jump. This jump may be a border line of fear in some instances.

Body language of surprise locations

Some of the places or locations that you would see a woman or man surprised could be:

  • ·         At a party
  • ·         At a sporting event
  • ·         At a child’s birth
  • ·         When meeting someone like a celebrity
  • ·         When finding an item or a token
  • ·         At a chance of luck like gambling

There are plenty of places where the nonverbal communication of surprise can be seen. When dealing with someone who may be under investigation their body language should at first show surprise and then fear. When in this order the man or woman would be saying through their signs and signals they were not expecting the issue to happen. The facial expressions would give away if they were telling the truth or if they were lying. The micro expression of surprise is telling in a way that people cannot control. In the case of a lie or lying this tip may just give up the “tell” or rouse instantly.

Body language and working with a baseline

When dealing with any body language it is always a good idea to watch the situation or the conversation for a moment to baseline what is going on especially if there is anything on the line that can later cause problems or issues. Being patient when interpreting body language is usually the most difficult for people who are new when it comes to learning how to interpret nonverbal communication.

Learning how to read body language or nonverbal communication may be easier than you would think, here is the best place to learn.

Reading body language of fashion

Reading body language: Understanding and interpreting human behavior can take someone many places. When it comes to reading body language there are so many things to look at to determine what someone is thinking and in a way people who are good at reading body language may sometimes come across as clairvoyant or even mind readers.

There are some significant items to look at while interpreting nonverbal communication and in some instances these items may carry more weight in given situations.

One item in specifics that may give a huge insight as to what people are saying without saying is it is their choice for fashion.

Reading the body language of a CEO

Think about it this way for a second. If you were to look at a fortune 500 CEO and see him in his custom business suit would his body language read differently while he was in his uniform vs if he were out on a beach working on a tan in board shorts?

The answer would depend upon the CEO and how they view themselves but for the most part a person’s attire will directly affect their actions verbally and nonverbally.

For some people what they decide to wear becomes their outfit to become a super hero. Now this may or may not sound strange but some people build their confidence from what they wear. If they are in some attire that they feel makes them better for any given reason they become more confident.

There are some people who don’t care about what they wear and there are others who care about what they wear because of the opinion of their peers.

In a business setting with one of these CEO’s their attire may cause them to be seen as a hero or as a villain to their peers.

Reading the body language of fashion attire causes one to question, is the person wearing their outfit, gear or costume because they want to or because of the peer pressure to fit into a mold or category that has been defined by another person or group.

Take for instance the CEO who is in the board shorts, would his message be the same visually if he were to give a presentation in those board shorts vs. in his custom suit?

Is there a reason that his suit would need to be custom because it is expected or because he or even she is worried about what people think of their fashion sense or style?

The answer may be both reasons. He or she may need to wear their attire that is specified to fit into the mold that has been created and followed since who knows when.

For a man who would be used to some of the custom labels like Canali or Ermenegildo Zegna with a super 160 fabric or higher, an off the rack suit basic super 110 fabric may destroy his confidence (for the intents of this article the higher the number on the fabrics the better the wool used). This could be the same for his tie, shirts, shoes and even cuff links. In some instances peoples watches can be their super hero attire that they use for confidence.

Reading body language of fashion and women
Reading body langauge of fashionable clothing

Reading body language of women and fashion

Some women and even men are really into fashion. The designer for them really matters, the colors of the clothes really matter, the fit really matters and even the materials really matter.

Name off a bunch of designers and these people would know who they are easily: Versace, Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tom Ford, Brioni, Armani, Prada and they could talk about each of their fashion lines. Now these names could go on forever whether European or even some of the American designers.

When someone is confident and comfortable their body language reads entirely different from when a person is uncomfortable and lacks confidence and clothing plays a big part of that.

Confident people tend to:

  • ·         Walk more smoothly as it almost seems as an unlabored glide
  • ·         Sit up straight more consistently
  • ·         They may keep their hands away from their body as protection
  • ·         Their breathing pattern may be relaxed
  • ·         There is more of a calmness to them overall
  • ·         Verbally they seem to talk faster with an almost exacting knowledge

Some people gather these feelings and abilities from what they wear.

Reading into the body language of a man or woman who is uncomfortable would show:

  • ·         A general lack of confidence throughout their body, they may try to make themselves smaller in stature to not stand out.
  • ·         Some stress in their facial expressions and even sometimes sheer fear or frustration could be seen in the reactions
  • ·         Maybe a rapid pace of breathing almost to a panic
  • ·         A haphazard approach to their nonverbal actions where they would not seem consistent or smooth. In some instances they would seem out of place
  • ·         They may be shifty or fidgety with their hands playing with buttons or even a pen

Reading the body language of a man or woman’s fashion may show both the positives and negatives of their nonverbal communication.

For a man or woman who is used to being seen in a specific clothing style or designer they may have problems appearing in public or in the board room in something that would not be deemed good or desirable from their peers.

Women love their shoes and they are not just and accessory they make the outfit, if they had to show up somewhere in a pair of shoes that would get them ridiculed by other women their confidence would be decreased for the most part and their body language would show the signs of their stress. A women who is used to wearing $2,500 Christian Louboton shoes may have trouble going out for a night in $20 off brand basics especially if she knows that she will be judged by other women.

Reading body language of fashion and women

Reading body language of purses and watches with confidence

Celebrity women or even just regular women may also need to have the latest or greatest purse or handbag by one of the top designers Hermes comes to mind with their $25,000 Birkin Bag. Sometimes just this article alone can be the device used as the super hero powers like a man and his Rolex or other similar watch that shows status to the rest of the world.

Some men or women seem to float as they walk by with their fashionable attire. In some instances this float may become arrogance or may even make up for a lack of confidence. The body language that is read may sow contempt to the people who are around them for whatever reason or the man or the woman may just turn their nose up at others around them.

Take away some of these peoples status symbols of fashion or accessories and the men or women lose their super-secret special powers and abilities.

Reading body language of fashion and designers may help you understand and interpret why a person has confidence of lacks it.

Reading body language homework

You have something in your closet or drawers that make you a super hero or feel like a villain sit down for a moment and figure out if those items or that single item is your source of confidence or if you are confident in general. It is a help to know what makes you feel better when your body language is being read and needs to project confidence and knowledge. For some it may be a tie, a suit, a watch, underwear, a pair of slingbacks (that’s a type of women’s shoe for the men who are reading think high heels), a bag or even a big fat diamond ring.

Take the time to understand why these items make you feel better and become your own internal super hero and it may surprise you what you find out.

Reading body language like an expert is a skill that can be learned. Understanding and interpreting nonverbal communication is a strategy that can help you in business life as well as your social life.

Reading body language of mirroring and rapport

Reading body language: People have the ability to build comfort while in the presence of others and the body language of rapport will give that comfort and that comes through the use of mirroring. All of these fancy words can be summed up as a way to help others be like you or you be like them.

First off for someone to be comfortable you will have to understand what the other person is doing with their body.

You must ask yourself a few questions to help build rapport and to use mirroring correctly.

Is the target person in a good or bad mood? This is important because you will need to know what is comfortable when mirroring and what is not because you will need to be similar.

Reading body language of mirroring
Reading body language skill of mirroring

You must also determine what your intention is and what you want to do, are you just trying to build comfort or mirror the person or are you trying to build rapport because they are two separate things.

Using body language by mirroring others to build comfort

Mirroring would just be to copy the actions of another person to build comfort as rapport follows after another word for this would be synchronicity.

When you mirror the body language that you read of the other person you will make similar actions that they do. Now there are some mistakes that people make when mirroring the body language of others to help build rapport:

  • Mirroring too quickly
  • Trying to hard to build comfort non verbally by being too similar

When you copy the body language of another person to mirror you will want to do this slowly and not at the same exact time as the other person this would be uncomfortable and the other person subconsciously or consciously would think something strange would be going on.

By moving too quickly you will give up your strategy and it may build mistrust.

If you are sitting and the target person crosses their legs you would wait a few seconds and cross your legs in a similar fashion it would not have to be exact.

If the person that you are mirroring reacts to changing their body language by changing theirs you have made a mistake at this point you would need to slow down. This going too quickly when mirroring others would fall into the trying too hard by doing to many items as the target person.

You don’t have to be in the exact position as the other person just similar this is where the trying too hard comes in.

Body language reading can help you build rapport

If the goal is to build comfort through the use of body language or non verbal communication taking your time with the other person is the key to both of these items.

Building rapport is a term used in Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP it means that you are similar, not exact and that happens from mirroring another person. Synchronicity would be another explanation of rapport. Similar but not exact is key.

  • The person slouches in their chair and then so do you a few seconds or even a minute later in a similar fashion but not exact.
  • The person folds their arms and then so do you a few seconds or even a minute later in a similar fashion but not exact.
  • The person crosses their legs and then so do you a few seconds or even a minute later in a similar fashion but not exact.

Once again the key here is similar but not exact and a little slower than the other person.

Reading body language of building rapport
Reading body language while building rapport

The places that you can use mirroring and rapport can be numerous.

  • Work
  • Dating
  • At a party
  • At the coffee shop
  • At church

The places and times that you can use this body language skill are endless. Learning how to read the signs and signals of body language can be done through practicing mirroring to gain rapport.

Body language reading assignment

To learn how to build rapport by mirroring you can use a simple strategy to learn this talent.

Decide to spend some time out for an hour somewhere that there are other people who you can mirror. The best thing is to not attract too much attention to yourself and just be similar to a person that you choose. Now this target can be a man or a woman and it doesn’t matter their age.

Do as much of your work mirroring and build rapport through your peripheral vision. Remember to go slow and make your moves a little slower than the other person. As your starting to gain rapport you will notice yourself starting to want to move faster this is a sign that you are getting close to rapport.  This also means that your body language reading is close to what it needs to be.

After accepting this assignment that will not only help you learn how to read body language but will also give you the skill of mirroring and then building rapport. You may just find while doing this skill building exercise that the people that you mirror and then build rapport with will approach you in some instances.

This exercise may just help you get a new boyfriend or girlfriend in a covert way without them knowing why they were attracted to you. You may just gain a new client or even help yourself get out of a tense situation.
