Reading body language of hands

Reading body language: There are so many ways that we are judged for our communication both verbally and nonverbally. When most people communicate they use their hands for some sort of gesture to add to their words and that adds to their communication.

The body language that is read from the use of hands to communicate can be interpreted in so many ways good or bad.

First off an effective communicator would not put their hands too far away from their body. This would push the hands out past the “Bell Bubble”. When other people are reading your body language in their eyes you may lose social value when your hands get too far away from your body as it may be seen as a lack of control.

Reading body language includes the hands

Social value would be your perceived value by others as they watch your body language as one complete action.

Reading the body language of the hands

The hands tell so much when it comes to a person and looking at them could give you a clue as to what the person does for a living. Are the hands of the man or the women that is being read by  another person:

  • ·         Smooth and soft
  • ·         Rough and callused
  • ·         Clean consistently
  • ·         Dirty and stained

All of these appearances of the hands will tell you what type of job that the man or woman may have. If a man has callused hands it could be a sign that the work that is done is rough. If the hands of the man are soft it may mean that he has an easy job. Now these two differences are not absolutes as someone who works with their hands may use gloves.

It would be wrong to judge this situation quickly because some people who work with their hands take very good care of them and it would be hard to tell what type of job they have.

These small clues from reading the hands can give you some information but not all of what you would need to make an informed explanation as to the state of the man.

Now reading the body language of a woman’s hands is similar to the hands of men. You will look for the same items when it comes to the condition of the skin. Are her hands soft and smooth or does it look and seem as if she works with them. Now if you are a man you would have to be very careful as to make an observation about a woman’s hands that is something that is saved for a woman to say to other women.

Reading the condition of the hands and body language

Now the condition of the skin for men or women is one thing but the fingernails are another item all together. Reading into the fingernails of the man or woman go one more step as to what the person does. There are some men and or women who don’t care what their nails look like so what does that say about the person? Not much exactly as they may not care or understand that there may be a meaning associated with the looks of their nails or they may have a job or trade where it does not matter.

So what kinds of jobs matter when it comes to the condition of hands and fingernails for a man or women while reading into their body language?  Professional jobs:

  • ·         Doctors – sometimes*
  • ·         Attorneys – sometimes*
  • ·         Salespeople – sometimes*
  • ·         Jewelers – sometimes*

*It says sometimes because only sometimes it matters and sometimes it doesn’t.

Reading body language of hands can explain occupation
Reading body language of mens hands

For jobs where it does matter what the hands look like it would be a good idea to get manicures performed too keep up the appearance of the hands to be read by others in a manner where it gives an advantage. If a man or a woman gets a manicure does it mean that they are more detailed oriented? It is possible but it doesn’t mean that they are. Does it mean that they will communicate better? It may if the man or woman is put under scrutiny for what their hands look like.

So now that you have the appearance of what the hands can mean how does this really affect body language?

The hands may draw a reaction like repulsion or disgust or they may even draw surprise when they are neat and clean.

People look at your hands and fingernails more than people would guess especially when women meet other men or women.

Your hands are usually in front of you when you are communicating so they are one of the first things that people may have the capability of judging once they get close to you.

It is important to also remember that when people are reading your body language or nonverbal communication skills they are reacting to what they believe your body language means.

Reading body language of hands can help you seem like you can read the minds of others. Learn how to read body language like an expert here.

Reading body language of men part 2

body language of mens posture can determine flirting
Body langugae of men and seduction

Reading Body language: When looking or reading the body language of men there is a simple 9 step process that helps you understand what nonverbal communication is happening

.

The first 3 steps in reading his body language for business, datting or seduction or even safety are:

1.      Proximity or distance from the person or the people involved

2.      What position is his boy in compared to others?

3.      Where his hands and what are they doing?

The next three steps in reading his body language consist of determining a few more things that will help you decipher the situation and what is going on between him and others.

Step 4 – Reading men’s body language – look at his feet

When looking at a man to determine what his communication is you will look at his feet. Now the feet will either consciously or subconsciously point to what he is thinking about or what he may be interested in you.

Is he thinking about the woman over in the corner? He may start by pivoting his body and then will eventually get the courage to go over and flirt with her, he may already be engaged in flirting with the woman and he is waiting for the perfect time to go over and chat her up.

In a business setting the body language of his feet may be saying that he needs to leave, the new potential client is long winded and he has a meeting to get to. His feet or even maybe one foot will point at the door and a way saying “I want to go that way and get out of here.

So there is the potential when reading his body language of a man that it may be he is either interested in something going where his feet point at that person or object on or uninterested and then will point his foot or feet at that object or person.

In the instance of non verbal communication the feet may determine the direction of conversations and actions literally.

Step 5 – Reading men’s body language – look at his shoulders

The next step while reading the body language of a man for dating or business is to look at his shoulders in context of his feet. If he is standing the second he points his feet any other direction than forward his shoulder will dip towards the direction that his foot is going.

There is a very simple body language exercise of standing and directing both feet directly at the wall in front of you and then slightly start to twist the right foot and start to move it towards the wall to your right. If you do this in a mirror you will see you shoulder drop.

This same exact nonverbal cue will happen for men or for women so it is important to note that your shoulders will be a gibe away for whatever your feet are doing.

The shoulders will also determine the amount of self-confidence that he may have. If his shoulders are drooped there is a possibility that he lacks confidence especially if his chin is down. Now be careful here because it may be that he is tired and or that the chair he is sitting in is not comfortable this is where the signs and signals of a man’s body language may be misinterpreted. This non verbal communication of the shoulders must be looked at in context of everything else that is going on and not just by itself.

If the shoulders are up and the chin is up there is a good possibility that everything is ok with what is going on around him. There is one clue as to if there is danger or stress and as his shoulders will be rolled back and more than likely his fists will be balled up if there is confrontation going on between him and others. This puffing up is a natural reaction of a fight or an altercation.

Learning how to read the body language of men does take some time to learn and there is more elements to look at nonverbally than just one specific body part.

Shoulders and chins can help determine the body language of men
Understand his body language by learning about his shoulders and chin

Step 6 – Reading men’s body language – Look at his posture

In reading the body language of men the posture is next on the list now this item is similar to where the shoulders are but now you would take into account his stance and whether he is standing or sitting.

The posture will play a part in his confidence but also if he is attentive to what is going on.

If the man is sitting and he is slumped forward do you think that he is interested in what is going on around him? Is it possible for him to see everything that is going on? If he is out looking for a woman or a partner can he see the cues or the flirting action of others.

If he is at work can he pay attention to what is being presented to him if he is in a meeting?

Does he seem confident as to what is being said or being presented?

In most instance his posture will determine his body language and most of the nonverbal emotional cues that go along with it.

If he is flirting with a woman or a man his posture should show that he is interested by it being attentive. This does go back to primal days when people had to “peacock” or make themselves more attractive. “Peacocking” is a term used by pick up artists or seduction artists. If he were to slump down this effect would not be possible. When animals are in the mating mode they take up as much space as they can to be visible so their posture goes straight up and whatever parts of the body can go out to attract attention follow. Now this “peacocking” animal style would be a bad idea for a man who was trying to attract a mate to put his arms as far ways from his body as possible or to try and take up as much room as possible as it would go against social norms and he would lose social value. If he were trying to seduce a mate he would “peacock” on a smaller scale.

Body language or nonverbal communication exercise

As a body language exercise stand up straight with your shoulders out and with your chin up  breath in deep and exhale deep (but not too much where you pass out) and try and feel sorry for yourself or even try to not feel confident. Now do what you would to feel confident.

Now do the opposite stand up and roll your shoulders in chin down and breath slow and shallow and try and feel confident or excited.

What did you find?

If you did the exercise you would find it is hard for you to be in a good state of mind when your body language goes against what you are thinking.

Reading body language: Judged by your hair?

Reading body language: There are so many factors in determining what communication is and how people react to your message or messages through verbal and non verbal  communication.

You are judged in seconds by others when they meet you and size you up at the same time.

Body language can include your hair style
Nonverbal communication can be determined by your hairstyle

You are judged by your clothes, your accessories, your words, your body movement and even your grooming habits or lack of them.

You have little chance for error and since we live in highly visual and highly judgmental society.

It is hard to determine what is looked at first when people meet you, it could be your:

  • ·         Teeth
  • ·         Clothes
  • ·         Shoes
  • ·         Hands

What if the first thing that people looked at and judged you on beyond your words was your hair?

There are so many things that can go good with your hair and also there are a few things that are not so good.

You can be part of the small segment of society that has been naturally blessed with great genetics or you can be like the rest of everyone else.

There really are three way s that hair can go:

1.      Trendy and stylish – This would say that you are worried about what people think or that you are swayed by the way that society feels you should fit into a group. Either way as long as the hair style is done correctly. This trendy style of hair has a low threat of causing you to be judged in negative non verbal terms.

2.      Extreme or negative – When this style is used there would be high significance that you would be judged nonverbally and no matter how well your self control of your body language you would have a tough time delivering a positive message. An example would be a hair cut style of a Mohawk in the business setting in a nice suit. This example could also be colored hair or a style that doesn’t match the person who has the style.

In this sense a person who has a bald spot or a comb over and is not secure in who or what they are in the eyes of the person or people who are judging the content of the interaction.

3.      Neutral – in this category would be someone who has not fallen into the extremes of being judged by a hair style nor someone who would be in the trendy or fashionable hair style. There would not be much risk or losing social value as long as the person who is being judged is not among others who are in the trendy group or people who are knowledgeable in style.

4.      Accessories – You can have all of the right style and it could be the exact perfect cut for your industry or your message but you can do one thing wrong and that would to be choosing the wrong accessory or accessories to put in your hair. If you
choose something that pulls attention from your message you are not communicating effectively and you lose value. Whatever you decide to use it should be subtle and also conform to whatever you event you are invlved with or whatever industry you are in.

It may not make sense that your ability to persuasively persuade others can come down to your hair style or lack of hair style.

Learn how to interpret body langauge
Understandling how to read non verbal communication

Remember you are being judged not only by your message but by your nonverbal actions and attire. By drawing too much attention to any part of what you do that is not needed you can make your message ineffective and inefficient.

As people judge you or interpret your body language your job is to make this task difficult for them by not giving a person or a group a reason to have a negative opinion of you.

Reading body langauge:Knowing your social value – part 2

Reading body language:
Learning how to read body language is a skill that compounds over time. Your
abilities to read nonverbal communication will become faster and more intense.
It may be that your skills for reading body language is not very advanced and
you may know the basics. When taking a look at pictures your skills may even
take longer in the beginning.

You may have learned about social value and what it means
when people see your non-verbal communication in real time.

There is a second part to learning about social value but
also living it. Self-control would be the missing aspect of social value.

Your ability to control yourself or the self-control factor is
always on display when in public or when transmitted on video and maybe past
the non-verbal area in audio form.

You are constantly being judged by those who are watching
you whether they are part of or associated with what you are doing.

You should be asking yourself:

  • Who is watching my actions?
  • What are others thinking?
  • Will there only be positive thoughts of my
actions or can there be negative beliefs about what I am doing?
  • Can my actions be misconstrued?

These self-check questions are just guide lines to make sure
that you are being perceived as being seen as a positive light. Remember there
is always going to be a person who has to interpret what you are acting it.
This becomes even more important where you can lose value from others who are
watching.

Self control is a huge part of your non verbal or body language
communication and just for a second you are a salesperson and you do make
mistakes that would cause you to lose social value, do you think that you will
make the sale or transaction?

When was the last time that you were somewhere and there was
a person who was acting out of place? Was it uncomfortable? How did you feel
about the person? What thoughts did you assume about the person?

Every day when you are in public and you are communicating
your nonverbal communications are being judged as:

•           Positive
social value

•           Exempt
social value

•           No social
value or negative social value

One of the best ways to increase your body language skills
is to go to a bar or pub and watch people after they have a few to drink. The
people who have had a few drinks will let their guard down and not pay attention
to what they are doing like a person who is sober. Just remember if you decide
to drink you may be the person who is being judged if you do not control
yourself.

I would like to thank you in advance for your comments and
or questions.
